OXO 8-Cup under a cabinet? Check the refill.
Storage height alone does not tell you whether the brewer will be comfortable to use.
A batch-coffee buyer replacing a brewer or planning a machine under upper cabinets.
The deciding constraint
The thermal-carafe OXO 8-Cup 8718800 has a published 13.5-inch closed height, not a verified lid-open height. Buy only if you can refill its fixed tank and reach the brew basket; skip it if a removable tank or scheduled start is essential.
Keep what works. If your present brewer works and refills comfortably, a compact-looking replacement may not fix anything.
A conceptual filter-brewer study, not an OXO product drawing. Check the reservoir, lid and serving-vessel paths for the exact OXO model; no cabinet-clearance measurement is implied.

A steel base and rear support with a clear fixed reservoir, a flat upper head, a hanging brew basket and a tapered thermal carafe with a long dark grip.
-
Top access
The reservoir and brew basket are reached from above. Both lids are shown closed; this illustration does not show their travel or establish cabinet clearance.

Carafe handling
The thermal carafe sits below the basket. Plan its removal, pouring and cleaning route in your real setup; the grip and platform are exterior illustrations, not a handling test.

Refill the fixed tank
A stored body height does not settle refill access. Check the exact manual and your cabinet, especially if you would need to move the brewer each time.
A closed, empty, interpretive exterior. Tank optics, fine seams and controls are simplified; no calibrated scale, hidden brewing system or measured lid envelope is shown. This drawing cannot establish fit, operating clearance or coffee performance.

Can you actually add water there?
For the thermal-carafe OXO 8718800, the manufacturer’s dimensional diagram gives a closed body W7 × D10.5 × H13.5 inches. These are the body dimensions used in our planner, not the height with either lid open.
The independent review in our research reports a fixed reservoir. That makes your refill path an important part of the purchase. If you cannot reach it in place, consider whether moving the brewer each time is practical in your kitchen.
For example, a shelf 16 inches above the counter leaves 2.5 inches above that closed body. This subtraction does not establish whether a lid opens, a water vessel can pour, or the location meets the appliance instructions. Measure those paths separately.
Rehearse three movements.
Use the actual manual and your cabinet measurements. The illustration is conceptual; it is not a measured OXO clearance test.
- Refill the fixed reservoir from a safe position.
- Open and load the brew basket without hitting the cabinet.
- Remove the carafe or mug, then take parts to the sink for cleaning.
A carafe and a mug are different routines.
OXO documents mug and carafe brewing routes. Decide which one you will use and check the filter and serving setup for that mode. Do not assume a stated cup count matches the large mug you use.
A batch brewer earns its place when making several servings is part of the daily job. If you mostly want one manual cup and would rather store the brewer away, the AeroPress/V60 comparison is a more relevant starting point.
Two reasons to choose another brewer.
If a removable reservoir is non-negotiable, this recommendation should end here. If scheduled morning brewing is essential, the independent reviewer reports no programmable start. Do not buy a product that misses a requirement because it looks compact.
We have not measured noise, temperature consistency or cabinet clearance ourselves. Any performance statement from a reviewer must stay attributed to that reviewer.
A few useful answers.
How much cabinet clearance does it need?
We do not have a verified operating-clearance measurement. Check the exact manual and measure the lid, refill and removal paths in your kitchen.
Can I remove the reservoir?
The independent review used in our research describes a fixed water reservoir. If a removable tank is essential, select a different brewer.
The next step is yours.
Keep your current setup, follow a related guide or inspect the exact current model and offer. A good decision can end without a purchase.
