Research guide / Grinders By Counterform

OXO Compact grinder: small body, filter-coffee job.

Check the brewing method, nominal 50 g hopper and room to handle the grounds before choosing this grinder.

Who this is for

A filter-coffee owner moving from pre-ground coffee or replacing an oversized grinder.

Our conditional recommendation

Consider the OXO Compact 8720800 if you want a small electric grinder for filter coffee and its hopper/grounds workflow suits your batch. Skip it for a proven single-wall espresso requirement or a larger-hopper routine. This is document-based research, not our grind test.

Keep what works. If your current grinder fits and works well for filter coffee, small size alone is not a reason to replace it.

Use your recipe, not a cup claim

OXO Brew Compact Burr Grinder

8720800 · black · US edition

A tall circular body with a clear upper bean hopper, a dark adjustment sleeve, a clear lower grounds container and a round front power button.

  1. Beans at the top

The upper hopper holds up to 50 g according to OXO. Plan each batch around your recipe’s dose; the empty illustration does not measure capacity.

  2. Grounds below

The receiving container sits between the upper assembly and motor body. Plan its handling, removal and pouring route in your actual setup.

  3. Storage & access

A narrow body still needs room to refill and clean. Check the cord and cabinet separately; turning the drawing does not establish operating clearance.

A simplified empty exterior. No internal grinding mechanism, calibrated setting scale or measured access envelope is shown. This study does not establish espresso performance or grind quality.

Does your coffee dose fit its nominal hopper?

Check 8720800 and the 50 g capacity against the offer. The larger OXO Conical Burr Grinder and OXO’s manual grinder are different products; their specifications and reviews do not automatically transfer to this Compact.

OXO documents a hopper holding up to 50 grams of beans. Use the amount your own recipe requires, rather than translating a manufacturer’s cup count into your mug size. The calculator in this guide compares your entered batch weight with that nominal capacity.

A batch above 50 g requires more than one nominal fill. That is a planning calculation, not a test of how every bean loads or how the grinder performs. If refilling in the middle of a batch would annoy you, a larger-hopper route may be more suitable.

A narrow body still needs working access.

The manufacturer specification lists a body 10.75 inches tall with a 3.75-by-3.75-inch footprint. Its rounded feature summary uses approximately 11 inches by 4 inches. Neither is a measured operating-clearance requirement.

Leave a practical path to add beans and remove the grounds container. Check the cabinet, cord and receiving brewer, then rehearse how grounds move from grinder to brewing device. A cupboard storage plan is different from an in-use plan.

What our recommendation does not establish.

Bon Appétit reports an espresso shot from this Compact, along with grounds-transfer and static drawbacks. That is the reviewer’s evidence, not proof of universal single-wall compatibility. We have not measured grind quality, retention, noise or durability.

The removable burr information comes from OXO’s documentation. Follow the exact cleaning instructions; do not treat an easy-access illustration as permission to wash parts in an undocumented way.

An espresso need changes the recommendation.

If your real plan is single-wall espresso, stop and choose that grinder requirement first. We do not promote this Compact as a safe universal espresso substitute just because it is electric and small.

The hand/electric guide separates the filter option, the conditional manual espresso option and the electric-espresso gap in our shortlist. Keep the method clear before comparing convenience.

A few useful answers.

Is the hopper calculation a performance test?

No. It divides your entered recipe weight by the manufacturer’s nominal 50 g capacity and rounds up. Actual filling and your routine can vary.

Does the footprint include removing the grounds container?

No. The specification is a body reference. Measure the opening and removal paths separately.

Have you tested its noise or grind quality?

No. This recommendation uses manufacturer documentation and attributed independent review evidence. We do not present those findings as our own tests.
