AeroPress or V60? Start with what you own.
A manual coffee setup can use your current kettle, cup and coffee. The pouring or pressing routine makes the choice.
A manual-coffee beginner who already owns some useful brewing equipment.
The useful choice
Choose AeroPress Original if a pressing routine and put-away storage appeal to you. Choose the V60 Ceramic 02 if you want to learn deliberate pour-over. Both need suitable filters, hot water and a safe cup or server; a premium kettle is not an automatic first purchase.
Keep what works. If you already enjoy a manual brewer, improve the routine before buying another one.
A useful setup starts with your cupboard.
Check the equipment you already have. Suitability still matters: filters must match and the receiving vessel must support the chosen method safely.
What still needs a check
- Confirm hot water and a safe, controlled pour.
- Confirm a stable, suitable receiving vessel.
- Choose suitable ground coffee.
- Add the correct filters for the brewer you choose.
A premium kettle and a new grinder are optional decisions, not automatic items in this list.

AeroPress Original
Original · gray · standard size
A round gray chamber with a six-sided support flange, a ribbed standard filter cap and a narrower, partially extended hollow plunger.
-
Chamber & plunger
The plunger enters the chamber from above. The empty, partially extended pose shows their relationship; it is not an operating or storage instruction.
-
Standard filter cap
The cap sits beneath the support flange. Match the filter to the Original; this drawing does not show the separate Flow Control accessory.
-
A manual working position
Hot water, suitable coffee and a stable, heat-safe vessel are still required. Plan pressing and cleanup space before putting the brewer away.
An interpretive exterior, not a measured vessel or fit model. Polymer translucency, exact perforation count, volume markings and the hidden seal are simplified or omitted. The drawing cannot establish cup compatibility or espresso pressure.

Hario V60 Ceramic 02
VDC-02W · white
An open white ceramic cone with spiral relief, a curved integral handle, a broad support flange and an open lower passage.
-
Open cone
The empty cone exposes the spiral relief and lower opening. Size 02 paper filters and suitable ground coffee are still required; this is not a brewing simulation.
-
Handle & support
The handle joins the cone above the broad base. The dripper sits over a compatible cup or server, so its body height is not the assembled setup height.
-
Pouring is part of the work
Plan hot water, a controlled pour and cleanup. Check what your current kettle and vessel can do before adding more equipment.
An interpretive exterior of the white ceramic 02. Fine glaze, rib count, wall thickness and bore size are approximations. No server fit, drawdown, drink yield or taste performance can be inferred from this illustration.

Fellow Stagg EKG Pro
1222PRO-MB-US · Matte Black
A flared matte-black kettle with a slender rising gooseneck, a cantilevered handle and a low lid pull, seated on a square base with a circular display, dial and separate menu button.
-
Spout & handle orientation
The curved spout and counterbalanced handle extend on opposite sides. Turning the exterior makes their relationship clear; it does not establish a safe pouring envelope.
-
Kettle & base
The kettle sits on a separate powered base. The circular display, dial and menu button are at the front. The display is shown unlit; this is not a working temperature control.
-
An optional upgrade
Keep a kettle that already gives you the pouring routine you need. This premium option earns its place only when its pouring or temperature features solve a real need.
An interpretive closed exterior of the US Pro, not Pro Studio. Fine seams, vent and finishes are simplified; cord routing, underside details and hidden electrical parts are omitted. No measured footprint, operating clearance, temperature behavior or pouring performance is established.
Original independent Counterform illustration. No manufacturer affiliation or approval.

Hario V60 Drip Scale
Black family exterior · Amazon reference VST-2000B
A black family-level exterior with a separate square weighing platform, a rolled rear edge, a low rectangular body and a front ledge with a blank LCD window and two touch-control locations.
-
Platform above the body
The square weighing surface sits above the body. Turning the exterior reveals the platform edge, side gap and lower shell; it does not show a load cell or establish a measured footprint.
-
Display & touch controls
The display sits between the left start/stop and right on/off/tare touch locations. It is shown unlit, with no simulated weight, timer, accuracy or response speed.
-
A scale when you need one
This is an optional bench or pour-over weighing and timing tool. Keep a suitable scale and timer you already own. This illustration makes no espresso drip-tray fit promise.
Family depiction: the Amazon reference is VST-2000B; current Hario USA names VSTN-INT-2000B. The exact supplied revision is unverified. Only shared exterior form is shown; revision-specific settings, feet, underside details and precision claims are omitted. Proportions and finishes are interpretive, not a measured fit model.

Pressing and pouring ask different things of you.
AeroPress Original uses a manual pressing process. Plan a stable, heat-safe cup or server suitable for the device and follow the manufacturer’s safe-use instructions. “Espresso-style” coffee from a press is not the same process as high-pressure machine espresso.
The V60 Ceramic 02 is a pour-over dripper. Your pouring technique and recipe become part of the routine. It sits over a cup or server, so its own height is not the total height of the assembled setup.
Give the equipment you already own a job.
Start by checking hot-water supply, a suitable receiving vessel, ground coffee and the correct filters. Use an existing kettle when you can pour safely and control it adequately for your chosen method.
A scale and a controlled-pour kettle can help make a routine more repeatable, but they are not a reason to prescribe our premium accessories to every beginner. Determine which problem a new tool would solve before choosing it.
Check size, materials and parts.
This AeroPress selection is the gray Original, not XL, Clear or Go Plus. This V60 is the white ceramic size 02, VDC-02W, not a plastic dripper or Hario SWITCH. Their filters, parts and handling expectations should match the actual product.
Ceramic can break. Pressing needs stable support. A maker’s chamber volume or “cups” description does not establish the finished drink volume in your mug. Match the recipe and serving need rather than trusting a headline capacity.
Choose the process before chasing a taste claim.
We have not brewed or tasted these devices side by side. Coffee, filter, recipe and technique can all affect the result, so our recommendation is based on process, equipment requirements and practical fit.
If the main decision is whether to buy a grinder, keep that as a separate question. Existing suitable ground coffee can be a starting point, and a future filter grinder should match your method and batch size.
A few useful answers.
Do I need a gooseneck kettle immediately?
Not automatically. Check whether your current kettle allows a safe, suitably controlled pour. Buy another kettle for a demonstrated limitation, not because it appears in an aspirational setup.
Which makes better-tasting coffee?
We do not have our own comparative taste evidence. Choose around the process you want to repeat, then develop a recipe with the coffee and filters you use.
Can either replace an espresso machine?
These are manual brewing routes. AeroPress espresso-style recipes do not make it a high-pressure espresso machine.
The next step is yours.
Keep your current setup, follow a related guide or inspect the exact current model and offer. A good decision can end without a purchase.
